Crazy Power, Crazy Economy

Saipan is located in the center of the Pacific Ocean. As like the other small islands, Saipan suffers lots of difficulty with supplying materials, because this island can't be self- sufficient. Especially the lack of oil creates problems. The biggest problem is endless of power outages. I have living almost one and half years on Saipan, and I have experienced innumerous power outages. When it occurred again and again, CUC always said it is a temporary phenomenon, but as time has passed by, people raised their voices and expressed their dissatisfactions about the management of CUC and the power outages.

In addition, the power outage brought crazy gas and electric prices. The reason was also CUC. They set the price high for fuel, because they don't have enough money to pay for gas. For now, it's almost $5 per one gallon. Increasing the oil price is affecting our economy; finally our worse economy is getting worse than ever. Our economy has slowly fallen into a deep slump. Citizens are having more and more worries because of a wrong judgment and deportment from our government.

Also the power outage influenced at tourism. The tourist industry is Saipan's main source of revenue; therefore it is closely related to our economy. However, if the power outage often occurs, it can harm the image to tourists. As a result, it will influences in number of tourists and even our economy.

Since Thomas Edison invented the light bulb, it has made people live more easy and safety. We do not need candles in darkness because, with just a touch of finger tip, we can get bright, visible sites. However, this safety life is threatened by the dark shadow of the power outage. Recently, the lack of power often occurs on Saipan. On this difficult situation, I think we need to gather our power to find the cautious answer because we have to escape from this deep, painful swamp of the situation.

Do You Want to Kill Yourself?

In every second, five teenagers are starting to smoke. One of the biggest reasons is actors in a movie. Actors are smoking all the time in movies. When the teenagers see this, they want to smoke, too. Because they think the actors look cool, and want to be like their favorite stars, their heroes. Right now, teenage smoking is really big issue of society. According to the research in Korean magazine, adult smoking decreases every year, but teenage smoking increase rapidly.

Most important period in life time is of course teenage years, because in teenage period, they are growing physically and mentally. In every day, every moment, new, young cells are continually produced. But cigarette represses this phenomenon; it just gives physical weakness. Therefore, much smoking tends to injure the voice, lung, and blood cycle. In addition, it can cause mental pain . Finally, the cigarette betrays the full growth, and controls one's mind. It causes hardness for ordinary regular life.

Millions of teenage exposed to danger in one year. Some of them want to escape from the deep, dangerous nicotine swamp. However it's really hard because smoking is addictive. It's one of the matters of teenage smoking. Even the adults can't stop smoking if they want. In case of teenagers, because they don't have determination and self control much as adults, they are exposed to danger more than adults.

One of the most dangerous things to attack your body are of course drinking and smoking. Especially smoking is easier to addicted. Only twenty and thirty years ago, the smoking was monopoly of adults. But as time as passed by, teenage smoking is increasing, so billions of teenagers are falling into the deep swamp of the smoking. Therefore, teenage smoking is really hot issue for our society. The teenagers have less determination and self control as much as adults, so if the smoking is effecting and effecting their body even mental, they can't remove the smoking. As a result, it prevents growing their bone structure, and dominantes their life. The smoking is same as selling one's life to evil. If you are a teenage smoker,do you know this serious matter can causes by your smoking?

Guide for your new school life

My freshmen year is almost done. However the memory of my first day at the school is still fresh in my mind. When I entered the entrance of the school, my heart was too full for me to speak a word. I was expecting my school life, but on the other hand, I wasn't confident of it. I think most of the freshmen will experience the same impression as me if they come to school firstly. However, the new school life is easy to run about in confusions unless some help and advice. Therefore, for the freshmen, I want to share some tips what I learned and experienced.

With the starting of the semester, you have to take four classes for each semester. The English and math are compulsory subjects for one year, and then you can choose the two subjects you want. In my case, I took English, Algebra 1, Biology, and PE. At first, I felt hard about them because the classes last 80 minutes. It was harder than I thought. Through it, I realized that the high school is not easy as junior high school. Being a high school student means, more efforts, more patience. By the way, if you think you need more time to adapt; I recommend the elective classes such as band, ceramics, art and computer. You can develop your potential and enjoy your school without some burden.

After the third period, we have a lunch time at the cafeteria. When you buy the delicious, hot lunch, you need the student card, but before that you have to put the money on the card by using the machine beside the office. During the lunch time, you can enjoying with your friends in the classroom or study at the library or play basketball.

In my opinion, the high school period is really important because it's a place to prepare for your college and social life. We experience many things and perform our belief. So trying to do your best in school is most important than anything else. Try to improve yourself and imagine your wonderful future. The brilliant future is waiting for you. You can fly high to your future as an eagle in the sky.

Being a high school student is not a easy to swallow as chicken soup. It needs more patience and more effort, and actually you have to improve yourself. Sometimes it can be your burdens. Also you can get tired about it with feel to giving up everything. However don't worry about it yet, in SSHS, you can enjoy your school life as if the load were off your shoulders!

Stem Cell Research, a Murder or Not....

Forming and delivering a human is a miraculous phenomenon than anything else in the world. Since ancient time, our ancestors considered that delivering as time passed by, the dignity of man had fallen with infinitely developing medical science. People's greed for conquesting disease finally reached to the point of using another life form for the research to extend human life.

The research of stem cells started with scientific evidences from few years ago. If the research succeeded, the door of regaining incurable disease might have opened. Therefore many people believed that the stem cell research will bring a possibility to conquest the disease and hope to invent the method. However there was an existing fatal problem. For this research the embryos were needed, because it has the most stem cells. At first, they used the embryos which were aborted but it was a violation of law. Finally they found an another way called artificial (external) fertilization. The sperm and egg cells combined and formed, an embryo, occurred outside of the mother womb.

However, it's still on the issue as the fat is on the fire. Some people say it can grow to become a baby when we let it grow, it's also a valuable life as same as us. I agree with this opinion. Because in other words, it's a crime of killing a person. Although the research can bring a development of medical science and it can give safety to our life, it's wrong, it's still a crime.

Developing the technology and medical skills caused by the greed of men. They make a useless struggle for endless life and they want to escape from shadow of the disease. Number of scientists and doctors were trying to dissolve them, and it brought lots of positive effects to us, people. On the other hand, the dignity of man had fallen, also. People had only considered about their profit and benefit, they had broken the morals. They overlooked the importance of life. I think, if there are any temptation trying to lead us, we have to keep the minimum of morals and it's our duty to preserve the natural life cycle god has given us.

The Secret of the Ossuary

When I received the topics for research, I realized that there are lots of things I don't know about. Honestly I didn't care about those things until now. So everything was new and everything was mysterious.

Among the topics, I found a really interesting one. It was about secret of Jesus Christ. Because I'm a Christian, it was surprising and fresh. I have heard about the hypothesis before, so I thought, its a vaguely hypothesis from some scholars. However, they discussed the hypothesis with complete evidence as more than my idea. They insisted that they found an ossuary of a brother of Jesus Christ. They had trying to find the facts for supporting the ossuary, but the scholars are refuting this hypothesis over and over.

I think, if they found some clue about Jesus Christ, and whether it is a true or false, it will bring the big issue of religious and historical matters into public debate.
